Cultural concern for an ancient tea market
Tea, originally from China, has grown to be cherished worldwide. As both a leading producer and consumer of tea, China has taken steps to ensure the sustainable growth of the global tea industry, promote cultural exchange, and share the richness that tea adds to daily life.
The Yushan Ancient Tea Market, established during the Song Dynasty (960–1279), served as a central hub for tea trading. Recognized in 2004 by national experts as a “living fossil” of China’s tea production and culture, the site highlights its historical significance as an official tea market.
In 2006, under the guidance of President Xi Jinping, the ancient market underwent two rounds of restoration to return it to its original state, preserving its legacy for future generations.
