The 6th and 12th caves, known as the "First Great Cave" and "Music Cave" of the Yungang Grottoes in north China's Shanxi Province, reopened to tourists on Monday after being closed and repaired.

Cave No. 6 is one of the most representative architectures of the Yungang Grottoes, with its grand scale, richness of carvings, and refined techniques displayed. There are more than 2,900 Buddhist statues in existence, making it the "First Great Cave" in Yungang.

Cave No. 12 is commonly known as the "Music Cave." The shapes of the musical instrument and performer sculptures in the cave, as well as the composition of the groups, embody the style and music system of the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534). They are precious materials for studying the history of ancient Chinese music.
