Beyond foam
Is the foam extinguishing agent used to put out the fire can quickly subdue the flames because of it? The aqueous film-forming foam extinguishing agent (AFFF) once showed excellent fire extinguishing efficiency due to containing PFOS substances.
However, this excellent extinguisher has hidden dangers to the environment and biological health. To effectively address the control and phase-out of PFOS substances in China's fire protection industry, the Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center (FECO) of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, in collaboration with the World Bank, developed and implemented the "Reduction and Phase-Out of PFOS in Priority Sectors Project in China" under the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
This project not only concerns the innovation of fire extinguishing technology, but also aims to protect the ecological environment and safeguard the future. So, what progress has China made in this field? Let's walk into this story about firefighting and the future together.
