China needs to improve border control while nurturing friendship with its neighbors, said vice chair of Central Military Commission Fan Changlong on a recent tour of the country's northern border.
Fan inspected border troops stationed in Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang and Jilin, said a press release issued Sunday.
Border troops, bearing an important responsibility to the country, should always stay alert, loyal and devoted, Fan said.
Border troops should make good use of information technology to strengthen border control and improve training, he said.
Border troops should also improve exchange with troops from neighboring countries, fully implement bilateral border agreements and settle disputes through negotiation to enhance mutual trust and create a friendly environment, he said.
Fan also stressed the importance of disciplining soldiers and officers, fighting corruption and raising moral standards.
