A nuclear emergency medical rescue drill codenamed "Medical Service Force – 2015C" was held in July at a training base of the PLA Academy of Military Medical Sciences (AMMS). This is the first full-element drill held by the PLA's nuclear emergency medical rescue force at a training base.

As of 2015, China has more than 50 nuclear power generating units including both in operation and under construction with its total capacity ranking the fourth place in the world. It is critical and of great significance for China to strengthen its nuclear emergency medical rescue capability.

The drill kicked off in early July. Two nuclear emergency medical rescue detachments respectively from the Shenyang and Guangzhou Military Area Commands of the PLA went through a whole-process test on the four capabilities of emergency response, long-range maneuvering, self-supporting and rescue operation command and management.

A national-level nuclear security exercise code-named "Shield 2015", which involves military and civilian nuclear emergency response forces, will also be held this year, according to the nuclear emergency response office with the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense.

The venue of the exercise will be in south China's Guangdong Province due to its long history in civilian nuclear power use, according to a preliminary plan.

It will be the second national-level nuclear security exercise since "Shield 2009", which was held in November 2009 at Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant in east China's Jiangsu Province.
