The Chinese Navy has evacuated a critically-ill soldier who had been engaged in an escort mission in the Gulf of Aden and Somali waters.
Master Sergeant Wang Xinsong was transported back to Beijing in an International SOS charter plane on Wednesday. Wang was admitted to the Navy General Hospital, according to a statement issued by the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy.
According to the statement, Wang felt short of breath while onboard the "Qingdao" destroyer, which was part of the Navy's 22th escort squad, on Feb. 8.
The soldier was transferred to a hospital in Djibouti on Feb. 10 for treatment, where he was diagnosed with a serious pulmonary infection and acute renal injury.
As Wang's condition was life threatening, he was accompanied by a renal expert from the Navy General Hospital, the statement said.
