China's Ministry of Defense on Wednesday handed over equipment and material for assembling a trunked radio system to Cambodian Ministry of Defense, officials said.
Trunked radio system is a complex type of computer-controlled two-way radio system that allows sharing of radio frequency channels among a large group of users.
Col. Li Ningya, military attache of the Chinese embassy to Cambodia, delivered the equipment and material to Phorn Nara, director of the Cambodian Defense Ministry's telecommunications department, with the presence of Cambodia's Defense Ministry Secretary of State Cheang Am.
Li said fast and reliable communications were crucial for national defense sector, expressing his confidence that the assistance would contribute further to strengthening efficiency in communications among the armed forces.
Phorn Nara said it was the second time that China's Ministry of Defense provided the trunked radio system to Cambodia along with a total of 1,477 walkie-talkies.
Cheang Am expressed his profound gratitude to China for the donation, saying the aid truly reflected China's high attention to helping develop Cambodia's defense sector.
"The assistance is very important and responds timely to the need of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, particularly in the field of communications," he said.
At the event, Chinese-owned Southeast Asia Telecommunications, or Seatel-Cambodia, also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Cambodian Ministry of Defense.
The MoU was inked between Phorn Nara and Seatel-Cambodia's general manager Han Hanchou.
Under the deal, Seatel-Cambodia would help train human resources in information technology and develop telecommunications infrastructure such as fibre optics and networks for the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, said Phorn Nara.
