Southwest China's Yunnan Province is encouraging retired servicemen and servicewomen to rejoin the army if they meet the job requirements, and offers a one-off financial incentive of 4,000 yuan ($580), local media reported Thursday.
Yunnan has issued a guideline stipulating that young people who possess outstanding skills including driving and cooking and who can speak ethnic minority languages will be given priority in recruitment this year, in a bid to effectively enhance the quality of the new recruits to the army.
This year's college graduates will also be considered as key potential candidates for army recruitment, and the number of new graduates is expected to take up over 50 percent of the province's total recruitment, according to the news stie yunnan.cn.
The guideline also emphasizes that the recruitment will include young people from all 15 unique ethnic minorities in the province, and the number of these new ethnic recruits will account for at least 30 percent of the total.
Those who fail in the military trainings or have not attended such trainings will not be allowed to join the army, the guideline stressed.
And to deter any resignations from the army, all newly registered soldiers will be trained intensively for at least five days under the direction of local governments, the report added.
