China on Saturday urged Japan to adopt a correct historical view when educating the youth and stop provocations in Diaoyu Islands issue.
The Japanese government on Friday endorsed a revised high school textbook guideline, obliging students to be taught that Diaoyu Islands are Japan's inherent territory with no territorial disputes.
"China resolutely defends its territorial sovereignty and any attempt to infringe upon China's sovereignty over Diaoyu Islands will be futile," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said, adding that Diaoyu Islands and its adjacent islets have been an inherent part of Chinese territory since ancient times.
The Chinese side has lodged stern representations with the Japanese side on this, Lu said.
"We urge the Japanese side to face up to the history and reality, adopt a correct historical view when educating the youth, and stop stirring up trouble on the issue," he said.
