World Health Organization (WHO) regional experts on Tuesday met in Uganda to share information and best practices to prevent the spread of Ebola currently causing havoc in neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
WHO Uganda office in a statement said the experts from Uganda, DRC, South Sudan and Somalia met to share information on surveillance of Ebola and Polio.
At least 69 deaths have been confirmed and 31 probable since the DRC's ministry of health declared the deadly disease outbreak in North Kivu Province last month, according to Sept. 23 situation report.
The Ebola virus is highly contagious and causes a range of symptoms including fever, vomiting, diarrhea, generalized pain or malaise and in many cases internal and external bleeding.
Mortality rates of Ebola fever, according to WHO, are extremely high, with the human case-fatality rate ranging from 50 percent to 89 percent, depending on viral sub-type. Enditem
