More than 5,000 volunteers from Chinese colleges and universities have been recruited for the upcoming 2018 China International Import Expo (CIIE), the Shanghai municipal committee of the Communist Youth League said.
Most of the volunteers are students from over 30 universities in Shanghai as well as other higher education institutions in neighboring Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui provinces.
Volunteers of language majors including English, Japanese, Russian, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese and French will provide services such as assisting with guest arrivals and departures, translation and interpretation during the week-long event, which will open on Nov. 5 in Shanghai.
All volunteers will receive a variety of training regarding language delivery, interpersonal communication, stress coping and service protocol, according to the event's organizing committee, adding that recruitment will continue until the expo's opening.
So far, more than 130 countries and regions have confirmed attendance at the CIIE, which is expected to add new impetus to China's reform and opening-up and to make the Chinese market more accessible to the world.
