A large commercial solar thermal power station has been officially put into operation, the operator said Wednesday.
The Delingha solar thermal power station, located in the northwestern province of Qinghai, has a 50 megawatt capacity and can generate nearly 200 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually.
The station, operated by CGN New Energy Holdings Co., Ltd. based in south China's Guangdong Province, can reflect sunlight to a central receiver to heat water, which produces steam to power a turbine for generating electricity.
China has a set a target to produce 20 percent of its overall energy from renewable sources by 2030.
