Customs officers in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province, have cracked down on an increasing number of drug smuggling cases involving using human beings in the previous three months.
Zheng Jun, deputy director of Guangzhou Customs' anti-smuggling bureau, said in Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport alone, customs officers have detained 8 suspects who used their bodies to smuggle drugs in the third quarter of the year.
"And customs officers seized a total of 6.6 kilograms of drugs after cracking down on the 8 cases involved in using human beings to smuggle drugs," Zheng told a press conference in Guangzhou on Tuesday.
Both figures have witnessed a big growth when compared with the same period of the previous year, he said.
