He noted that paperless services across China have been growing in popularity since 2017, and that 58 percent of domestic flight passengers at the nation's 32 largest airports currently complete their check-in online before they arrive at the airports.
In addition to Cathay Pacific Airways, airlines providing international flights at Pudong International Airport, such as Air China, China Eastern Airlines, Asiana Airlines, Singapore Airlines and Spring Airlines, have also taken measures to simplify their check-in processes.
"We want to launch a similar service as soon as possible, and our internal IT system is ready for that," said Liu Bing, a manager for ground service with China Eastern.
China Eastern currently operates about 430 international flights every day at Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport in total.
