Mongolia's Myagmarsuren Baasankhuu and Annemiek Irene Stegehuis of the Netherlands won the men's and women's categories respectively in the third stage of the 2018 Colorful Yunnan International Granfondo Cycling Festival in Dehong Prefecture, Yunnan Province on Monday.
The third stage was a hilly race of 148 kilometers at 1,400 meters above sea level.
Baasankhuu showcased his strong climbing ability as he claimed the stage win in 3:56:54.
"I was lucky, because my teammates did a very good job. From the middle of the stage, they were pushing me to the front," the Mongolian said afterwards.
His teammate Craig Stuart of Australia, who won the yellow jersey in the last stage, sprinted to third place.
In the women's category, Stegehuis completed her race in 4:18:17 seconds. "I almost gave up, but I insisted on carrying on. The natural hill scenery was beautiful, and embraced by drifting fog," she said.
The event will take a one-day break, and restart in Tengchong on Wednesday.
The Yunnan Granfondo has been held every year since 2014. This year's competition covers more than 600 kilometers from Mangshi to Lijiang, and encompasses a variety of terrain. Nearly 1,500 cyclists from 26 countries and regions are taking part in this year's event.
