A procuratorate in Beijing initiated a public prosecution against Zhang Shaochun, former vice minister of finance, on charges of taking bribes, according to the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) Friday.
The indictment said Zhang had taken advantage of his posts and other state functionaries' duties to seek benefits for others and accepted a huge amount of money and property in return.
The Second Branch of Beijing Municipal People's Procuratorate filed a lawsuit against Zhang with Beijing No. 2 Intermediate People's Court.
The SPP statement said prosecutors had informed the defendant of his litigation rights, interrogated him and listened to the defense counsel's opinions. The rights of the defendant have been properly protected.
