More than six out of 10 South Koreans welcomed the possible visit by Kim Jong Un, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), to Seoul as it helps promote peace and reconciliation on the Korean Peninsula, a poll showed Thursday.

According to the Realmeter survey of 500 adults conducted on Wednesday, 61.3 percent was in favor of Kim's trip to Seoul for the inter-Korean reconciliation and the peninsula's peace.

During the Pyongyang summit in September with South Korean President Moon Jae-in, Kim promised to visit Seoul at an early date. Moon has expressed his hope that Kim's visit would be made before the end of this year.

Against the DPRK leader's Seoul visit was 31.3 percent. The result had 4.4 percentage points in margin of error with a 95 percent confidence level.

In all regions and age groups, supporters for Kim's Seoul trip outnumbered opponents.

Among the conservative voters who support the conservative oppositions Liberty Korea Party and the Bareun Future Party, there were more opponents than supporters for Kim's visit to Seoul.
