China Daily will launch a global edition on Wednesday, presenting an incisive, panoramic picture of the country and the world, according to the national English-language newspaper's publisher and editor-in-chief, Zhou Shuchun.
"Combining our Chinese mainland edition with overseas dailies and weeklies published in the United States, Europe, Asia and Africa, the China Daily Global Edition will feature extensive and analytical coverage of events from every corner of the world, with a Chinese perspective," Zhou said.
"There will be quality journalism, including insight, opinion, culture and more," the publisher said.
The 16-page broadsheet will offer more news analysis, financial and economic news, in-depth features and opinion pieces.
The front page will feature news analysis of events of great significance inside and outside China, while the World Watch column on this page will include opinion from influential Chinese and foreign figures in politics, business and academia.
Page 2 will be devoted to in-depth stories on hot global issues. The News section will help readers catch up with events in China and elsewhere in the world. One of the World News pages will be dedicated to analysis of events in places where the newspaper is published, such as the U.S. and Europe.
The Business section will help readers understand Chinese and foreign economic policies and learn about developments in large Chinese companies and multinational heavyweights. Exclusive interviews with CEOs of giant transnational companies will be one of the section's highlights.
The Comment section will include editorials and opinion by staff writers and eminent contributors, and readers can acquaint themselves with experts' views on some of the most challenging issues of the day from insightful and thought-provoking writers.
The Culture section will have the latest news, previews, reviews and in-depth interviews from the world of film, music, art, literature and beyond.
"The China Daily Global Edition, with a new, eye-catching format, arresting photos, quality cartoons and easy-to-understand graphics, will be published on weekdays," Zhou said.
The daily edition will be accompanied by a weekly tabloid, China Daily Global Weekly. It will bring readers news from the previous seven days to give them a more even and considered perspective on China and international affairs. "Our offices in Beijing, Hong Kong, London, New York, Nairobi and other major cities around the world will offer news around the clock," Zhou said.
