President Xi Jinping will attend a gathering to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the "Message to Compatriots in Taiwan" on Wednesday in Beijing.
"Message to Compatriots in Taiwan" was issued by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress on the first day of 1979, proclaiming major policies and principles in the peaceful reunification of China.
Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, will deliver a speech at the gathering, which will be held at the Great Hall of the People at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
