A museum was opened Saturday in east China's Jiangsu Province to showcase the history of the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, the first domestically-designed and built modern bridge over the Yangtze.
Built in 1968, the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge has a double layer structure. The upper layer is used for highway traffic while the lower layer is used for trains. Hailed an engineering miracle upon its completion, it is a landmark for the provincial capital of Nanjing.
The museum was built on the basis of one of the bridgeheads. Inside the museum, there are introductions about the construction of the bridge, items that tell stories about the bridge, and equipment and tools for bridge maintenance.
It took three years for the construction of the museum to be completed. The museum was jointly built by the Nanjing bridge management department of China Railway Shanghai Group company and Nanjing University.
