A fire that broke out in a mountainous area on the northern outskirts of Beijing Saturday was put out on Sunday, according to authorities in Pinggu District of Beijing.
The blaze started on a mountain in Miyun District at around 12:23 p.m. Saturday and spread to Pinggu District at about 1 p.m. Saturday due to strong winds.
The fire was put out Sunday morning after it spread over an area of 42.7 hectares. No casualties have been reported.
The city activated an emergency response with city officials overseeing the fire control. Nearly 3,000 firefighters joined the fire extinguishing.
Six villagers in Miyun district were detained by police for burning weeds when fixing a water pipeline in woods, causing the forest fire.
