U.S. TV group Discovery Inc. has signed with Chinese media investor CMC Inc. to jointly develop theme park business and preschool education products in China.
The two companies announced in Shanghai on Thursday that they will collaborate on developing digital Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) edutainment products for kids aged 2 to 5 and build "Camp Discovery" theme parks in China.
The entertainment park is expected to create experiences that complement Discovery's growing real-life entertainment content broadcast in China in addition to offering hotels, dining, sports, entertainment and shopping facilities.
"We see a huge opportunity in this space to grow our business. Together with CMC Inc., we aim to bring top-quality products to our audiences and consumers in China," said Tony Qiu, Discovery vice president.
He said the STEM products will be developed as an omni-channel non-curriculum based edutainment tool in a subscription-based modular design offering virtual, physical, online and offline experiences.
