China's top legislature is considering draft revisions to the Law on Prevention and Control of Environmental Pollution by Solid Waste to employ tougher and more scientific solid waste management measures.
The draft revisions were submitted Tuesday to the ongoing bimonthly session of the National People's Congress Standing Committee for the first reading.
Minister of Ecology and Environment Li Ganjie briefed lawmakers on the draft revisions.
Hailing the roles the existing law has played in curbing solid waste pollution and safeguarding people's health, Li called for prompt law revision work.
The draft proposes strengthening the mechanisms for curbing industrial and agricultural solid waste pollution, placing more responsibilities on waste generators.
The draft also stipulates household garbage sorting, calling for a complete household garbage sorted disposal system. Enditem
