Six people are missing from a heavy rainstorm that hit Ganluo County in southwest China's Sichuan Province, local authorities said Tuesday.
The torrential rains started at 9 a.m. Sunday in Ganluo County, Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Liangshan. The maximum rainfall exceeded 109 millimeters, causing floods and mudslides and cutting off transport, communication and electricity, according to the provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters.
So far, five construction workers on the Chengdu-Kunming Railway and a local resident have been reported missing.
Rescue workers are searching for the missing.
As of 3 p.m. Monday, the rainstorm starting Saturday has affected around 24,000 people in Sichuan. Around 2,500 residents were evacuated to safe places.
