China's civil aviation authority said that efforts will be made to increase the transfer capacity of airports in the Greater Bay Area to avoid disruption to trips between the mainland and Hong Kong following the recent disruption to Hong Kong airport.
The Civil Aviation Administration of China said it will enhance flight capacity as well as provide easier access for passengers to reschedule or cancel tickets or get refund, according to a statement.
Hong Kong's Airport Authority canceled Monday's remaining flights in the afternoon, after thousands of protesters swarmed the main terminal building.
Mainland airlines, such as Air China, China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines, also stepped up their efforts to handle the affected passengers. The airlines said they will fully refund or help with ticket changes for the passengers affected by the cancellation of flights.
Air China, which canceled a total of 22 flights on Monday and Tuesday, said in its announcement that it will arrange extra flights between Beijing and Shenzhen on Tuesday to cope with the passenger demand due to the protest in Hong Kong airport.
