Over 5,800 people were sworn in as volunteers and went on duty Saturday for the upcoming second China International Import Expo (CIIE), according to the Shanghai municipal committee of the Communist Youth League of China.
The volunteer total outnumbers that of last year. It is expected that the number of volunteers will continue to increase by the end of the second CIIE.
These volunteers are mainly students from 38 universities in Shanghai, including some international students, providing consulting services in nearly 20 languages.
More than 300 volunteer service stations have been set up and over 200 volunteer teams have been organized in Shanghai to serve the second CIIE, to be held for Nov. 5 to 10.
Over 3,000 enterprises from about 150 countries and regions have signed up for this year's CIIE including more than 250 of the world's leading companies.
