At least seven people were wounded as a magnitude-5.2 earthquake hit Zizhong County in Neijiang City, southwest China's Sichuan Province, on Wednesday, the emergency management bureau told reporters.
The tremor felt strongly in Zizhong County caused evacuations from several schools in the vicinity.
The railway department in Sichuan has activated its emergency response so as to ensure the safety of travelers.
The quake struck at a depth of 14 kilometers at around 8:14 a.m. BJT, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.
Rescue missions are underway as local fire departments have sent forces to quake-affected areas.
