An aircraft carrying the University of Kansas men's basketball team made an emergency landing at Mineta San Jose International Airport in Northern California Sunday evening, the university said.
It said the school's team was on a flight home from San Jose when the Swift Air Boeing 737 plane reported a failure in one of its engines about 20 minutes after takeoff.
"The pilot immediately contacted the San Jose Airport where we returned and made a safe landing," added the university.
"Thankful to report that everyone onboard is safe and sound," the University of Kansas Jayhawks basketball team tweeted.
Ryan White, senior associate athletic director of development of the university, posted a video on social media showing an engine of the plane was blowing flames while it was in mid-air.
Local media said the San Jose Fire Department sent several crews to the airport before the landing, but it took no further action as the aircraft landed safely.
The Kansas basketball team beat its Stanford rivals 72-56 in a match at Stanford University earlier in the day.
