Macao has confirmed the eighth case of novel coronavirus infection, which was also the first infection of Macao resident, the special administrative region's health authorities said on Sunday.
The Health Bureau of Macao said the newly confirmed patient was a 64-year-old female Macao resident, and the infection has been classified as an imported case, based on preliminary information.
The patient had been treated in Macao's hospitals for fever and cough since Monday and was transferred to Centro Hospitalar Conde de Sao Januario on Saturday afternoon, and then tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
She has been quarantined for treatment and had moderate symptoms related to coronavirus infection, the bureau added.
According to her statement, she had neither been to central China's Hubei Province, the epicenter the epidemic outbreak, nor to adjacent areas; nor had she knowledge of having been in touch with any confirmed novel coronavirus patients.
However, she had been an in-patient at a hospital of Zhuhai on Jan. 10-17 for treatment of herpes zoster. She also had purchased live poultry from a market in Sanxiang town of Zhongshan city in Guangdong Province on Jan. 22 and had stayed in Sanxiang for two days. Therefore her case has been classified as an imported one.
The Health Bureau said the disease prevention and control team has been conducting a follow-up investigation of her epidemiological history and identifying people that might have had close contact with her.
