Despite the novel coronavirus outbreak and unfavorable weather conditions in some regions, China has seen the construction of almost 73 percent of its 110 major water conservancy projects resume, according to the Ministry of Water Resources.
Excluding Hubei province, center of the outbreak, and regions in Northeast and Northwest China where freezing weather still lingers, about 95 percent of projects have had construction resume, the ministry said in a media release on Monday.
It also said about 47,100 workers are working on construction sites for 80 major water conservancy projects, which means 60 percent of workers in these sites have returned to their posts.
Keeping the strengthening of epidemic control in mind, the series of measures the ministry has taken in promoting construction resumption has proven to be effective at the current stage, it said.
The ministry has designated officials to follow each major project. Aside from learning about the difficulties these projects are confronting, these officials are also responsible for strengthening coordination and offering guidance to help these projects forge ahead.
The ministry will urge projects in Northeast and Northwest China to resume construction and make an all-out effort to ensure at least 100 major projects can resume construction by the end of March.
