Greek authorities announced on Wednesday that all schools and universities will be closed and public gatherings should be suspended at least until Saturday in three regions.
The precautionary measures will be carried out in the regions of Achaia, Ilia and Zakynthos island, according to an e-mailed press statement by the Health ministry.
The announcement came after the 9th confirmed COVID-19 case in the country was reported earlier on Wednesday.
The male patient is a Greek national who had recently traveled from Israel and Egypt. He is hospitalized in the port city of Patras in western Greece, according to the ministry.
The man was in a group of more than 50 people from the three regions who traveled together and returned to Greece on Feb. 27, local media reported, citing a priest who was among the travelers.
Since the first case was reported on Feb. 26, authorities have been taking measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
