China resolutely opposes official exchanges and military contacts in any form between the U.S. and Taiwan, a spokesman of the Ministry of National Defense said on Thursday.
Senior Colonel Ren Guoqiang made the remarks when asked to comment on Taiwan leader Tsai Ing-wen's recent claim saying Taiwan will continue to earn support from U.S. and deepen the Taiwan-U.S. partnership.
Ren slammed Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party authorities for banking on foreign forces to build itself up as well as their attempts for "independence", calling such acts as doomed to self-destruction.
He said China's national rejuvenation and reunification are the general trend that reflects the righteousness and people's will.
"We will never allow anyone or any force to invade and divide the sacred territory of the motherland. Once such a serious situation occurs, the Chinese People's Liberation Army will resolutely defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity," he said.
