The United States should stop meddling in Hong Kong-related issues that are purely China's internal affairs, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said Tuesday.
Hong Kong is China's Hong Kong, and Hong Kong affairs are purely China's internal affairs. No foreign country has the right to interfere in them, Wang said at a press briefing, responding to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken's remarks concerning Hong Kong.
Blinken has reportedly said that the United States should follow Britain in letting in "those repressed fleeing Hong Kong."
All illegal activities must be punished by law, Wang said. "This is the case in all countries and regions governed by rule of law."
"If the United States agrees that this basic principle also applies to what happened at the Capitol Hill, then it should seriously reflect on and correct its wrong words and actions including emboldening law-breakers in Hong Kong and using Hong Kong issues to interfere in China's internal affairs, so as to avoid damaging China-U.S. mutual trust and cooperation," Wang said.
