The number of COVID-19-related deaths in Africa reached 99,886 as of Thursday evening, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said.
South Africa has reported the highest COVID-19-inflicted deaths in Africa, at 48,478, according to the Africa CDC.
North African countries of Egypt and Morocco reported the second and third highest number of COVID-19-related deaths, at 10,150 and 8,517 respectively.
According to the continental disease control and prevention agency's Africa COVID-19 dashboard, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the African continent has reached 3,786,322 as of Thursday evening.
The Southern Africa region is the area most affected by COVID-19 in the continent in terms of the number of confirmed cases, followed by the Northern Africa region, said the Africa CDC.
A total of 3,336,229 people infected with COVID-19 have recovered across the continent so far, the agency said.
