Seven Taliban militants were killed and 11 others were wounded following an accident explosion in Afghanistan's eastern Paktia province, the provincial police said Wednesday.
The incident happened in a Taliban hideout which homes a militants control and command center in Muqbalo locality of Dand-e-Patan suburban district at midday on Tuesday, the police said in a statement.
The explosion was apparently caused by detonation of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). Militants in Afghanistan have been using home-made IEDs to make roadside bombs and landmines to target security forces, but the lethal weapons also inflict casualties on civilians.
More than 920 civilians were killed and over 1,640 others wounded in IED explosions in 2020, according to official figures.
The militant group has not responded to the report so far.
