Political parties of China and the United States have underlined the importance of bilateral ties to both countries and the world, and called for implementing the consensuses reached by the two heads of state to advance the healthy development of the countries' relations.
During the 12th China-U.S. Political Party Leaders Dialogue held via video link on Monday and Tuesday, representatives of the Communist Party of China and members of the Democratic and Republican parties of the U.S. exchanged their views about the domestic situation of each country as well as the prospects of China-U.S. ties, according to a press release issued by the International Department of the CPC Central Committee after the dialogue.
The Chinese participants stressed at the virtual meeting that as the largest developing country and the largest developed country in the world respectively, the future of the relationship between China and the U.S. has a great bearing on the future of the world and advancing the healthy and stable development of their relations is the common aspiration of the people from both countries and the international community as well, the press release said.
They underlined the need for the two countries to implement the important consensuses reached between President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Joe Biden, uphold mutual respect, treat each other as equals, take into consideration their respective core interests and major concerns, and strive to enhance mutual understanding and trust, it said.
They also called for continuously intensifying exchanges and cooperation through various approaches including the political parties' dialogue, strengthening communication and coordination between Beijing and Washington on major international and regional issues in order to make contributions to promoting world peace, stability and prosperity, said the press release.
Standing at a new historical juncture, the CPC will adhere to a people-centered development philosophy, comprehensively deepen reform and expand opening-up, rigorously advance China's modernization process, create new opportunities for the rest of the world through its new development, and advance the building of a community with a shared future for humankind, the press release said.
The U.S. participants of the dialogue said that China and the U.S. have extensive shared interests in fields such as dealing with climate change, combating the COVID-19 pandemic, promoting world economic recovery and responding to global hot spot issues, despite the increasing competition between them, the press release said.
They expressed their willingness to continue to develop exchanges and discussions with the Chinese side about issues of common concern through the platform of the political parties dialogue in order to contribute to the countries' communication and cooperation and advancing the positive development of bilateral ties, it said.
