The Syrian Olympic Committee (SOC) announced Thursday its solidarity with China against what it described as the "U.S. blackmail campaign" reflected by reports about the U.S. mulling over boycotting the upcoming Beijing Winter Olympics.
The committee stressed the necessity of adhering to the basic principles and guidelines in the Olympic Charter, in particular, the principle of "political neutrality", which is basically keeping sports away from political quarrels and respecting the games' official motto: "Together for a shared future".
Meanwhile, the committee called on the International Olympic Committee to take a clear stance against the so-called diplomatic boycott and respect the Olympic Charter.
