A Chinese military spokesperson on Thursday said that the United States has proven to be the largest source of risk to international security.
Wu Qian, spokesperson for China's Ministry of National Defense, made the remarks at a press conference in response to recent U.S. media's hype-up of so-called "nuclear threat" from China.
China adopts a nuclear strategy that is defensive in nature, remains committed to no first use of nuclear weapons at any time or under any circumstances, and pledges not to use or threaten to use nuclear weapons against non-nuclear weapon states or nuclear-weapon-free zones, said Wu.
Contrary to China's efforts in the field, the United States has withdrawn from a series of arms control treaties, and continues to shell out for its nuclear modernization drive by developing low-yield nuclear weapons while boasting the largest nuclear arsenal in the world, said Wu.
"We urge the U.S. side to stop its wanton hyping, take an objective, rational approach to the development of China's national defense and armed forces, and join hands with us in upholding the strategic stability of the world," said Wu.
