Fruits of development should be used for improving livelihoods, solidarity, he says
China's top political adviser Wang Yang has stressed the importance of achieving enduring stability in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region by promoting development.
He said that the region should answer rumors and attacks with the fact that people of all ethnic groups there enjoy happy lives.
Wang, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee, made the remark during an inspection tour in Xinjiang from Friday to Tuesday.
He visited villages, communities, schools, businesses and religious sites.
Noting that Xinjiang's development stands before unprecedented, important opportunities, he said the region should give full play to its position and resource advantages and make good use of the stable development environment and policy dividends.
Efforts should be made to ensure that Xinjiang is not left behind as China embarks on a new journey toward fully building a modern socialist country and marches toward common prosperity, said Wang, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.
The fruits of development should be used to improve people's livelihoods, enhance solidarity and unite the people, he said.
Wang noted that Xinjiang has not seen a single violent terrorist case for five consecutive years and said the sense of happiness, fulfillment and security among people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang keeps growing.
Since stability is the shared aspiration of people of all ethnic groups, as well as the premise of long-term peace and order, Wang said that the authorities should study the situation in a scientific way and fight terrorism in accordance with laws and regulations.
He added that specific measures should be adjusted according to local conditions, and the public should be fully mobilized to proactively promote unity.
Wang also stressed the comprehensive and accurate understanding and implementation of the CPC's Xinjiang policy in the new era, saying that centralized and unified leadership of the Party should be enhanced.
He called for efforts to see clearly the long-term importance, difficulty and complexity of realizing the overarching goals of work related to Xinjiang and said that decisions should be made from the perspective of the long run so as to ensure that Xinjiang-related work will always go in the proper direction.
