Chinese courts nationwide concluded 265,341 environmental and resource cases in 2021, up 4.76 percent year on year, according to a report released by Supreme People's Court on Sunday.
By the end of last year, 2,149 specialized judicial organs for environmental and resource cases had been established across the country, according to the report.
As part of efforts to strengthen the judicial protection for the ecological environment, Chinese courts last year intensified their crackdown on crimes related to the environment and improved their handling of public interest litigations on eco-environmental protection and cases involving compensation for eco-environmental damages, the report stated.
Chinese courts have also played a vital role in fighting the battle against pollution, implementing the national strategy of biodiversity conservation and tackling illegal mining, the report added.
