At least 13 people died when the bus they were traveling in fell into a river in the Dhar district of India's central state of Madhya Pradesh on Monday.
A total of 13 bodies have been recovered from river Narmada, as the rescue work continues at the site. The total number of passengers on the bus hasn't been ascertained yet.
"The bus, belonging to the southwestern state of Maharashtra, had started its journey from Madhya Pradesh's Indore city this morning," a local police official told Xinhua.
According to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the identity of five victims had been established.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives in the mishap, saying "the tragedy is saddening."
"Rescue work is underway and local authorities are providing all possible assistance to those affected," Modi tweeted.
