According to the 2022 international science and technology innovation index, released by the Center for Industrial Development and Environmental Governance of Tsinghua University and the Natural Group, after evaluating 100 international science and technology innovation center cities (metropolitan circles) in science and technology, innovation, and innovation ecosystem, Beijing was found to rank the third, after San Jose and New York.
The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Shanghai are in the top 10. Not long ago, Nature magazine published an index based on the share of papers published in the journal by research institutions in major cities and metropolitan areas, in which Beijing ranked top and Shanghai third; there were eight Chinese cities in the global top 20 and 18 in the top 50.
According to the Global Innovation Index 2022, released by the World Intellectual Property Organization after evaluating the innovation ecosystem performance of 132 economies, China ranks 11th, up one rank from last year, marking a steady improvement for the 10th consecutive year. China also ranks first among 36 middle- and high-income economies and third among 17 economies in Asia and Oceania.
Beijing, in particular, has vigorously developed scientific and technological innovation.
The development of scientific and technological innovation in China is not only reflected in the growth of its scientific and technological input and output, but also in the obvious enhancement of the role of scientific and technological innovation in promoting economic and social development.
The reason why Beijing ranks top is also because it has continued to invest massively in scientific and technological innovation in recent years. Earlier, it had accelerated the construction of an international scientific and technological innovation center, successfully established three national laboratories, and produced a number of world-class original achievements.
While consolidating its status as the national science and technology innovation center, Beijing should continue to enhance its driving role to form a more powerful and resilient national science and technology innovation network. Only in this way can Beijing consolidate its position as a center of science and technology innovation and give greater impetus to the country's high-quality development.
