China to promote satellite internet development

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said it will include satellite internet equipment into network access license management starting from March 1, as it works to promote and regulate the development of satellite internet, a frontier where major countries are trying to establish a beachhead.

Satellite internet equipment refers to a new type of network equipment that completes data interaction and provides services to users based on satellite communication technology.

Satellite internet is a new information and communication infrastructure after fixed communication network and mobile communication network. It is one of the key directions for the future development of a global information and communication network, the ministry said in a document on Monday.

In the future, satellite internet will further integrate with the ground communication network and gradually form a three-dimensional communication network, the ministry added.

Including satellite internet equipment into the network access license management is aimed at guiding enterprises to comply with the trend of technological development, providing technical guidance in design and manufacturing of relevant products, the ministry added.
