China resolutely opposes and strongly condemns the United States' charging of certain Chinese companies on the grounds of alleged involvement in fentanyl-related issues, according to the Ministry of Commerce on Monday.
China has always enforced rigorous anti-drug measures and, guided by humanitarianism principles, has taken the lead in globally controlling substances like fentanyl, according to a statement on the ministry's website. This has played a significant role in preventing the illicit manufacturing, trafficking and abuse of fentanyl, the ministry said.
The U.S. illegally obtained the so-called "evidence" through a "sting operation" and pressed charges against Chinese enterprises. It is a typical unilateral bullying act which China resolutely opposes and strongly condemns, the ministry said.
China will do what is necessary to firmly defend the lawful rights and interests of Chinese companies, the ministry added.
