The Ministry of Commerce has extended the trade barrier investigation regarding the Taiwan region's trade restrictions on the Chinese mainland, said the ministry's trade remedy and investigation bureau in an online statement.
Due to the complexity of this case, in accordance with article 32 of the Foreign Trade Barrier Investigation Rules, the Ministry of Commerce has decided to extend the investigation period for this case by three months and the deadline for the investigation is now set to January 12, 2024, said the statement.
The commerce ministry initiated a trade barrier investigation encompassing 2,455 product categories originating from the Chinese mainland that could potentially face import restrictions or bans in the Taiwan region in April. These categories span agriculture, minerals, chemicals and textiles. The investigation was due to conclude on Thursday.
