There has been a significant increase in inbound travelers from countries that have newly joined China's visa-free entry policy, Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said on Tuesday.
China has granted 15-day visa-free entry for travelers from France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Malaysia since Friday.
Citing statistics from the National Immigration Administration, Wang said the first three days since the policy was implemented saw "a continuous rise" of travelers to China from the six countries.
Almost 18,000 people from the six countries entered China during the three days, and the daily average rose by 39 percent from November 30, Wang said.
Of all these people, nearly 7,000 entered China via the visa-free policy, the spokesman said.
The Foreign Ministry will continue to improve visa policies to further facilitate cross-border travel.
