The Ministry of State Security revealed cases where one individual was rewarded for reporting suspected espionage and another was penalized for illegally filming military facilities in recent social media posts. The ministry urged citizens to actively contribute to protecting national security while cautioning against irresponsible actions in such sensitive matters.
The post highlighted the case of a person surnamed Li, who received a reward for making a "major contribution" by reporting suspicious activities to national security organs. Li had rented a beachside house to a foreign company and observed a peculiar green light blinking in the house late at night.
The investigation revealed that the house offered a strategic view of a military harbor hosting significant annual activities, including displays of China's crucial navy weapons. The green light was identified as professional surveillance tools set up by foreign espionage agencies, posing a potential threat to national security. The ministry promptly addressed the situation and rewarded Li accordingly.
However, the ministry also issued a caution to military enthusiasts, urging them not to illegally photograph or film military equipment or facilities.
Recent cases involved enthusiasts using telephoto lenses or drones to capture sensitive content, risking the leakage of military construction progress, deployment details, or technical information. The ministry emphasized that those lacking awareness of the law and engaging in such activities may face detention, and severe consequences could result in harsh punishment.
