It's "a tragedy for humanity and a disgrace for civilization" that the humanitarian disaster caused by the Palestinian-Israeli conflict fails to end, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday, urging the international community to act for an immediate ceasefire.
The ongoing conflict and the murdering of civilians cannot be justified by any excuses, Wang said at a news conference in Beijing on the sidelines of the second session of the 14th National People's Congress.
Wang called for a release of all people detained at the Palestine-Israel conflict, a stop to all behaviors harming civilians, as well as full implementation of the "two-state solution".
"The disaster reminds the world once again that the long occupation of the Palestinian territories is a fact that should not be ignored anymore, and that the long-cherished aspiration of the Palestinians for an independent state should not be evaded anymore," he said.
China supports Palestine's full membership in the United Nations, and calls for a more broad-based, more authoritative and more effective international peace conference toward the "two-state solution", Wang added.
