(ECNS) - Jiangsu Meteorological Service Center and China Weather Network (www.weather.com.cn) have launched a location-based “mosquito infestation” forecast, with four levels ranging from “fewer’” to “normal”, “many” and “a lot”.
Forecasts update every hour and have a range of 2.5 kilometers. Users can also check longer-term trends in mosquito intensity in an area over a three-day-period, and this is updated every three hours, the center said.
The new service showed, for example, meteorological conditions in Chongqing, Shaanxi, Anhui, Jiangsu and other regions suitable for mosquito breeding on July 4 and 5. Meanwhile, regions including Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, and Tibet would not be bothered by mosquitos as a result of local weather conditions.
Users can also customize the mosquito forecast service by following the WeChat account of Jiangsu Meteorological Service Center or visiting www.weather.com.cn.
Mosquitoes are active in most parts of China from June to September. Studies have shown mosquitoes breed quickly when temperatures are between 25 and 30 degrees centigrade.
