(ECNS)--A 108-meter-high artificial waterfall cascading from a skyscraper in Southwest China's Guiyang City has stirred debate on social media platforms.
A video that went viral online showed the massive waterfall discharged from a 121-meter-high building that uses four large pumps to take water to the top of the structure. The electricity bill for just one hour is reportedly about 800 yuan ($118), promoting some netizens to regard it as a waste of money and water.
Mr. Cheng, a manager at the building’s property management company, said the waterfall is the world’s highest. He added that the water used is recycled tap water, rain water or water from other sources.
He also said the waterfall is put in use only occasionally, such as for important events in the city, and each time it runs for about 10 to 20 minutes, so there is no huge consumption of power.
Cheng also said he will be happy if the waterfall boosts Guiyang’s tourism charm.
